═ Keeping Virginia Families Informed ═

At the Center for Public Services, we aim to provide clear and current information on policy changes that could impact Virginians and their families. That includes helping them navigate and prepare for potential disruptions that may arise.

Recently, Congress passed and President Trump signed into law a bill that will affect the future of Medicaid. This law could force more than 300,000 Virginians off their health insurance. Under this new law, Virginia may face difficult budget decisions that could affect access to how medical services are offered.

That’s why it’s important to Make a Plan now. If your household depends on Medicaid, consider taking the following steps to stay informed about and prepared for any coverage disruption:

  1. Understand your coverage: Review what services you or your family members receive through Medicaid, ranging from doctor visits to life-saving treatments and medications, nursing home stays, home care, medical equipment and more.
  2. Stay in contact with your providers: Ask if they anticipate changes to your coverage or services in the coming months. Make sure you have updated contact information for all key care team members.
  3. Know your renewal timeline: Medicaid eligibility must often be reviewed annually. Keep track of your renewal date and respond promptly to any requests for documentation to avoid gaps in coverage.
  4. Keep records: Maintain up-to-date documentation of medical needs, prescriptions, and prior authorizations in case you need to transition between programs or re-apply for services.
  5. Contact Cardinal Care: Call the Cover Virginia Call Center Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 888-221-1590 with questions regarding your coverage or upcoming changes to Cardinal Care.
  6. Contact your Congressional Representative Jen Kiggans: Rep. Kiggans’ office can be reached at (202) 225-4215 for help navigating these changes, or to share your concerns about these potential cuts.

We recognize how complex and overwhelming healthcare planning can feel, especially for families already managing caregiving, appointments, and other daily responsibilities. Preparing in advance can reduce stress and help ensure continued access to essential services, regardless of what policy changes may come.

We will continue monitoring developments and providing tools to help families stay informed.
